贵州省农业科学院的前身为贵州省农业改进所，后相继改为贵州省农试场，综合农业试验站，贵州省农业科学研究所，1966年扩建为贵州省农业科学院。现已发展成初具规模，在全省具有一定影响，有较强科研开发实力的农业科研机构。院属有水稻、旱粮、油料、园艺、综合、信息、土肥、植保、生物技术等九个独立研究所，为适应科技体制改革需要，该院建立了水稻工程技术研究中心、玉米工程技术研究中心、水稻两用核不育系生态鉴定中心、现代农村发展研究中心和信息网络中心。

利用省农科院现有闲置地块，建设省内最大的专业化农业科技产品交易市场及农业科技产品孵化基地。初步设想前期在农科院大门两侧进行建设，同时利用大门对面地块建设“金农园”用于金农种子公司的仓储物流用地；在此基础上扩大规模，引进外来投资建设一个用地规模在150－200亩范围的大型综合农业科技产品及生产资料交易中心，同时进行农业科技产品的研发和项目孵化。
